GENERAL DUTIES: Provides family support advocacy for non–offending family members.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Provides families with clinical crisis intervention during the forensic interview and sets the foundation for extended psycho-educational support.
● Works with Law Enforcement and the Department of Human Services, Child Protection Division, to maximize the support a child and family receive throughout the investigation.
● Identifies and provides appropriate community resources and referrals.
● Provides education on topics such as:
o Childhood abuse and neglect
o System/family impact
o Caregiver’s role in recovery
o Safety planning
o Roles of the multidisciplinary team (MDT)
o Importance of treatment o Identification of treatment providers
● Conducts basic family assessments.
● Maintains ongoing contact with clients.
● Maintains the client case tracking system (NCATrak).
● Provides crisis intervention and support via phone.
OTHER DUTIES OR SKILLS:
● Attends Blue Sky Bridge events, as scheduled.
● Other duties, as assigned.
INTERNAL & EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:
● The Family Support Advocate will work closely with Blue Sky Bridge staff and agency partners including investigators, prosecutors, treatment specialists, physicians, caseworkers, volunteers, and others who may be involved with cases.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
● Calm demeanor with families & with staff.
● Keen ability to provide warmth and human connection to clients.
● Excellent communication and mediation skills.
● Flexibility and the ability to work well with a variety of disciplines.
● Ability to skillfully work in a group or independently.
● Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information.
● Self-motivated.
● Attentive learner.
● Physical ability to move between buildings, lift 20lbs, and go up and down stairs.
● Competency in Google Workspace/Microsoft including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
● Understanding of trauma-informed work environments and cultural humility.
● Understanding of child maltreatment and child abuse investigations.
● Knowledge of and sensitivity to family systems and child victimization.
● Crisis work experience.
● Awareness of, and strategies for coping with, stress and/or vicarious trauma.
● Confidence to express your thoughts, and reflective receptivity to feedback.
● Experience working in the child protection and legal system.
● Knowledge of local community resources.
● Knowledge of how a child advocacy center works.
● Ability to work well with children.
● Detail-oriented & organized.
