Blue Sky Bridge (BSB)
The primary mission of BSB is to conduct a neutral, child-friendly forensic interview and to provide the non-offending caregivers of the child with informative and empowering crisis counseling. The job of the forensic interviewer ends when the interview is completed and the information from the interview is delivered to the attending caregiver(s). Once the family leaves BSB, the job of the FI is finished. However, the Family Support Advocate will continue to be available to the family post-interview. An Advocate will follow-up with the family approximately 7 days and 21 days post-interview, to provide additional support and resources. Additionally, the family is encouraged to call Family Support at BSB (303-444-1388) if they require additional services, information and/or support at any time. An advocate is available from 9am to 5pm daily, unless involved in an active case.
Law Enforcement (LE)
If Law Enforcement (LE) is involved, they will tell the family as much as they can about their next steps upon conclusion of the Interview. Often, this involves questioning of the alleged offender, interviews with significant individuals and other fact-finding activities. Upon conclusion of their investigation, LE will staff the case as necessary to move forward with prosecution. Law Enforcement typically gives their contact information to the caregiver so that they can be contacted if the caregiver has questions or needs post-interview. Exchanges between the family and LE take place outside of the realm of BSB, as BSB will remain a neutral organization.
Department of Human Services (DHS)/Social Services
Like Law Enforcement, DHS will tell the family as much as they can about their next steps upon conclusion of the Interview. Often, this involves conducting further interviews with significant individuals and gathering additional information from the family or other sources. Contact information will be exchanged at the Interview so that the family is able to get in touch with DHS post-interview with questions and/or concerns.
Cases seen at BSB result in one of three conclusions: Unfounded, Inconclusive or Founded. If the DHS worker finds that the case is Unfounded, the case will be closed and DHS will not be involved further. An Inconclusive case signifies that the worker feels that there is not currently enough information to take action. However, should the case be Founded, the Agency will either send the child home without services, send the child home with supervision or support services, or recommend the child’s removal from the home. The decision is based on the safety of the child in his/her living situation. If the DHS worker recommends that the child be removed from the home, there will be a Preliminary Protective Hearing where the court determines the initial placement of the child. In either case, the DHS worker should keep the family informed of the progression of the case. Exchanges between the family and DHS take place outside of the realm of BSB, as BSB will remain a neutral organization.
