Human Trafficking
The issue of human trafficking in the United States has gained increased attention from the federal government in recent years. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, between 2008 and 2010 approximately 40% of allegations involved child sexual exploitation or child prostitution. Furthermore, 83% of child and adult victims of sex trafficking were United States citizens. While many victims of labor and sex trafficking are also undocumented, the high prevalence of U.S. citizens that are trafficked underscores the need for increased federal efforts towards addressing this domestic issue.
